According to a major processing source, effective October 1st, 2009, the American Express Monthly Flat Fee will increase from $5.95  to $7.95 per month.    The Monthly Flat Fee is an often-used option for merchants expected to do very small amounts of American Express volume (less than $5,000 annually).   The fee is also required (regardless of volume) for Internet-physical delivery, MOTO, and home-based merchants.  This unverified information was per a memo distributed by a major national processor distributed to it’s agent base on August 13, 2009.   According to the memo, American Express will formally notify affected merchants in the near future.
